Venta Valdivia – Algatocín
About 50 km from Estepona, along winding secondary roads, we enter the heart of the Serranía de Ronda.
On the outskirts of the white village of Algatocín, Venta Valdivia is hidden away. Although it is located in a ‘backwater’, this restaurant is undoubtedly one of the best steakhouses in the Serranía de Ronda. It offers an exquisite selection of high quality meats.
In this traditional restaurant you can find homemade meats, stews, rice, grilled meats and top quality wines. It has been awarded the Solete of the Repsol Guide. It is a distinction for local restaurants that stand out for their authentic essence.
The place itself has a lot of charm as it is an old flour mill through which water still flows next to its outdoor terrace. The venta has an ethnographic collection of old tools and equipment. The spacious dining room has been recently renovated and has a fireplace.
A few metres from the Inn is the Mirador Cortes de la Frontera with spectacular views over the mountains.
La Fructuosa – Gaucín
Also in the Serranía de Ronda and about 40 km from Estepona is the white village of Gaucín.
La Fructuosa is a charming and cosy boutique art hotel with only 6 rooms and a restaurant. It is located in an old wine press, which still preserves the press with which the wine was made.
The restaurant stands out for its terrace with views, a menu of seasonal products and Mediterranean products such as wine, extra virgin olive oil and Iberian pork.
Many live music events are held during the ‘Nights of Music and Tapas’.
A 15-minute walk away are the ruins of the Aguila Fortress, with spectacular views.
On clear days you can see Gibraltar and the African coast.
Restaurant Pedro Romero – Ronda
Located in the historic centre of Ronda, just a few metres from the Plaza de Toros and the famous Mirador de Puente Nuevo.
This traditional restaurant stands out for its decoration with photos of the world of bullfighting.
On its walls there is an authentic historical collection in the form of a bullfighting museum, with more than 1,000 posters, photos and documents of bullfighting from its beginnings to the present day.
So it is not surprising that the star dish of this restaurant is the Rabo de Toro (oxtail). On the menu there are several typical dishes from the Serranía, but also nouvelle cuisine, such as fish, sea bass, sea bream, salmon or duck Foie Gras with Moscatel de Málaga and matured beef.
The restaurant has also specialised in offering exclusively wines from the Serranía de Ronda.
Museo Molino Blanco – Antequera
Situated 53 km from Malaga in the middle of nature and only 10 km from the famous Torcal de Antequera.
This Venta stands out for its huge collection of farming tools and implements placed on its interior walls. It is a restaurant with traditional regional and Mediterranean cuisine.
You won’t have any problems parking. The restaurant is very large and has garden areas, a children’s playground and private swimming pool, and they organise concerts and shows all year round.
Our advice
If you want to eat in peace and quiet, ask before booking if there are any large events scheduled for this day, as they frequently host weddings, christenings, communions and all kinds of events.
Make the most of your sightseeing in Antequera, there is plenty to see: The Dolmens of Antequera are located less than 6 km from the restaurant and the Torcal is only 10 km away. Excellent location if you are going on an excursion to these sites and want to eat well.
Cortijo del Arte – Pizarra
The Hotel & Restaurant Cortijo del Arte is located on the outskirts of Pizarra, 30 km from Malaga.
The Cortijo was once a cowshed converted into a museum, with paintings or pieces of archaeological and ethnographic interest.
The hotel restaurant specialises in traditional Andalusian cuisine, stews and meats, using traditional recipes made with Malaga products.
In addition, as the name suggests, the grounds house a hotel with charming rooms. You can also book horse riding routes through the hands of expert instructors, both for beginners and experienced riders.
In the immediate vicinity of the Cortijo you can also enjoy a Bird Observatory next to the Guadalhorce River.
For hiking lovers we can personally recommend the charming route to the Santo de Pizarra from where you can enjoy panoramic views.

The route, which starts from the Raja Ancha recreation area, is easy and passes through some lovely areas.
Antigua Venta – Alfarnate
The Antigua Venta de Alfarnate is located about two kilometres from the white village of Alfarnate, 50 km from Malaga in the Axarquía.
This jewel is the most historic gastronomic corner of Andalusia dating back to the 13th century.
The Inn is located on the old Royal Road that linked Malaga and Granada. It was a road frequented by travellers who spent the night there. The Inn is considered to be the oldest of those still standing in Andalusia. Throughout its centuries of existence a multitude of historical figures have passed through it.
It still has a dungeon where prisoners who were to be transferred from one town to another were locked up. Other original parts and numerous items of ethnological interest and some tools have also been preserved.
As a typical mountain inn, you will find all the delicacies of the land that you can accompany with good local wines. Don’t miss their famous ‘migas a lo bestia’ or their meats (suckling goat, lamb, veal, etc…).

Many good reasons to visit Alfarnate
Alfarnate is situated on the border with our neighbouring province of Granada. It is situated 886 metres above sea level, in the Upper Axarquia, protected by the mountains and surrounded by cherry, walnut, almond and olive trees.
Do you like virgin olive oil? In Alfarnate there are several cooperatives where you can buy the green gold of excellent quality: Cooperativa Virgen De Monsalud and Aceites Cañero Alfarnate S.L.
But what Alfarnate is best known for is its tasty cherries. Every year in mid-June thousands of visitors come to the Fiesta de la Cereza (Cherry Festival) where you can buy and taste this fruit.

In the last two years the village has been expanding its festivities around this delicious fruit, with its Sakura Festival. It is a festival around the cherry blossom that takes place in Alfarnate on a weekend to be determined in mid-April.

Posada El Bandolero – El Borge
The Hotel and Restaurant El Bandolero is also situated in the Axarquia, in the white village of El Borge. This historic house was the birthplace of one of the most feared bandits of the Axarquia.
The old mill has now been restored and houses a small hotel with six rooms and a restaurant. The chimney, the well and the millstones of the virgin olive oil mill and many utensils of ethnographic interest have been preserved.
Try typical local dishes such as migas or ajoblanco and sweet local wines.
La Posada del Bandolero has been awarded the Solete of the Repsol Guide (a distinction for local restaurants that stand out for their authentic essence).
Why visit El Borge
The village, known for being a producer of muscatel sultanas par excellence, celebrates every year ‘El Día de la Pasa’ (Raisin Day). From midday onwards there will be a tasting of sultanas, local wine and a demonstration of the traditional grape harvest.
You can also buy sausages and other typical products of the gastronomy of the Axarquia region, all enlivened by ‘pandas de verdiales’ and ‘rocieros’ choirs.
This gastronomic event usually takes place on the third Sunday in September.
El Pimpi – Malaga
And, last but not least, another landmark located in the heart of Malaga’s old town: The Bodega El Pimpi.
Located in an old 18th century building, this bodega is more than 50 years old and is decorated with old posters of fairs and bullfighting festivals and dozens of photos of celebrities who have enjoyed an evening there.
In El Pimpi you can enjoy exquisite local gastronomy and the wines of the designation of origin Málaga, the extra virgin olive oil first pressing, the tomato huevo de toro, the chestnut ham or the sweet wine made from muscatel grapes.
This establishment has also been awarded a Solete from the Repsol Guide for its authenticity and uniqueness.
