There are 2 airports in Glasgow that share the same name, although one of them is known as Glasgow Prestwick airport, it’s the oldest and where the low cost airlines operate from.
Both airports have flights to Malaga, although Prestwick currently has 2 flights per week and Glasgow’s International airport has 4 flights per week.
Glasgow’s International airport is the second most used in Scotland and the eighth in the UK in number of passengers. Companies such as Loganair, Easyjet and British Airways are based in this airport.
In 1966 was the official inauguration of Glasgow’s new airport, functioning in conjunction with Prestwick, from where at first the transatlantic flights departed, and that moved to the new airport.
This airport is situated to the north of Prestwick near Glasgow in Scotland and is the chosen place by many low cost airlines for their operations base, amongst them Ryanair.
By size it’s Scotland’s biggest airport, although not the first one in number of passengers, relegated down to forth place.
The airport’s authority was sold to the highest bidder (BBA Limited), who decided to transfer all the flights to the newest airport in Glasgow, and went on to sell Prestwick airport in 1991, thanks to this new direction it hasn’t stopped growing since then.
The new plans for the airport include a wide extension where there will be plenty of room for the new Airbus A380, as well as a remodelling of the parking lot and the exterior highway.

The western part was built in 1989 aimed for international flights and the larger airplanes. The eastern section, built during 1970, has been redesigned for charter flights; it was previously used for international flights.
There are plans to continue extending the airport, as well as a new train station and a parking lot for vehicles.
