Andalucia's attractive features are highlighted by a wide range of golf facilities and a wonderful climate, allowing golfers to enjoy the whole year, including the winter months when most of European countries are suffering low temperatures, rain and snow. Andalucia (with over 100 golf courses) is the ideal destination for golf enthusiasts. The average annual temperature in the area with most golf courses, the Costa del Sol, is 18 degrees centigrade. In summer, the thermometer varies between 25 and 30 degrees; and in winter the day-time temperature rarely falls below 14 degrees.
There is no better way to reach your favourite golf resort than booking car hire Malaga airport services.
But if you don't want to drive on your vacation, you can always book Malaga airport transfers to any destination in Spain.
If you are still looking for accommodation, have a look at Fuerte Hotel Marbella, it's located in the centre of Marbella, really close to some of the best golf courses in Andalusia.
Half of Andalucia's golf courses are located in Malaga province, along whose coastline stretches the famous Costa del Sol.
The main attractions of this coastal area, which welcomes more than eight million tourists a year, are (apart from golf) quite varied: gastronomy, beaches, marine sports, nightlife, shopping, typical villages, historical buildings and much more. Marbella (the Costa del Sol's most international municipality), Estepona, Mijas and Benahavis are home to most of the courses in the province, though the sport can also be enjoyed in many other Malaga areas.
Located in Malaga municipality are the El Candado Golf Course, Guadalhorce Golf Course and El Parador Golf Course.
Marbella is the Costa del Sol's most cosmopolitan city, it is a tourist must, specially for golfers. In fact, it has the most golf courses of any municipality in Spain; a dozen. In bustling Puerto Banus, home to ostentatious yachts worth millions of euros, or in any of the fashionable restaurants or terraces, you could find yourself rubbing shoulders with famous people from the glossy magazines and TV gossip programs.
The "Golf Valley", a superb area situated behind Puerto Banus in the Nueva Andalucia macro-urbanization, includes Las Brisas Golf Course, Los Naranjos Golf Course, La Quinta Golf Course, Aloha Golf Course and Dama de noche Golf Course, where you can play in the evening thanks to its artificial lighting system. Close by is the Guadalmina Golf Course. Within one kilometre of the centre of Marbella is El Paraiso, and just past the city, in the direction of Malaga, is Rio Real Golf Course that winds down to the sea. A little further along, near the Costa del Sol Hospital, is Santa Clara Golf Course and Marbella Club Golf Course. Greenlife Golf Course and Cabopino Golf Course are situated at the eastern border of the municipality.
After Marbella, Mijas has the second highest number of golf courses in Malaga province, with eleven. Standing out as a popular destination for tourists is Mijas Golf Course, with one of the highest number of green fees sold on the Costa del Sol. This expansive complex has two 18-hole golf courses. The same is the case for la Cala, which has 54 holes and six-hole par-three layout. The main ones are: La Cala Golf Course, La siesta Golf Course and Miraflores Golf Course.
Another interesting place for golfers is Benahavis. In spite of being a small village, as far as number of residents is concerned (less than 2000), the municipality spreads out expansively, with half a dozen golf courses: La Zagaleta Golf Course, Monte Mayor Golf Course, Marbella CG Golf Course, Los Arqueros Golf Course and Los Flamingos Golf Course. The hilly terrain forms an integral part of each of these courses.
Estepona is another municipality with impressive golf facilities: Atalaya Golf Course (two 18-hole courses), El Paraiso Golf Course (designed by Gary Player), Estepona Golf Course and Coto la Serena Golf Course.
You can find many other places to practice Golf in Malaga province. The main Malaga golf courses are: Alhaurin Golf Course, Añoreta Golf Course, La Duquesa Golf Course, Lauro Golf Course and Torrequebrada Golf Course
Cadiz is the most southerly of Andalucia's eight provinces. Every year many people enjoy playing Golf in Cadiz (here you can find some of the best European golf courses).
The whole province has a seafaring flavour, for its fronts on both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Close to Doñana National Park is the newly opened Sanlucar golf course. Just near the city of Cadiz is Puerto de Santa Maria, where Columbus's ship the New World. Puerto de Santa Maria also offers a casino, waterpark and the nine-hole Vista Hermosa Golf Course. To the south on the coast, at Vejer-Barbate, is the Montenmedio Golf Course. Another coastal municipality in the province is Tarifa, the most southerly town in continental Europe and a favourite among windsurfers because of its strong winds. There are old walls around the town and a Moorish castle, though most visitors are drawn to the wide sandy beaches.
Chiclana, too, has beautiful beaches and is also notable for its extensive salt flats. Just off the coast is the island of Sancti Petri with its 13th century castle. Excellent accommodation, windsurfing and golf are to be found here, notably at the Ballesteros-designed courses Novo Sancti Petri A Golf Course, Novo Sancti Petri B Golf Course and the new Melia Sancti Petri Golf Course. The Campano Golf Course is nearby and it's only a 30-minute drive to Costa Ballena, designed by Olazabal. Here you can find the Costa Ballena Golf Course.
Inland lies Jerez de la Frontera, famous for its sherry and Andalucian horses. It is also home to the Montecastillo Golf Course and the recently inaugurated Sherry Golf Course. Many other towns in the area also carry the name "de la Frontera", recalling the time when they stood on the border between the Moors and the Christians. Between Jerez and the Costa del Sol is an area called "Ruta del Toro". This is bull farming country but halfway along, at Benalup, a new golf course has opened (Benalup Golf Course).
For golfers the area around San Roque near Gibraltar is particularly interesting. The list of courses here includes Valderrama Golf Course, Sotogrande Golf Course, San Roque Golf Course and San Roque New Golf Course, Alcaidesa Links Golf Course, La Cañada Golf Course, Arcos Gardens Golf Course, Villa Nueva Golf Course, El Puerto Golf Course and Reserva de Sotogrande Golf Course.
