Time: Three hours.
We shall leave Navalcaballo towards Siles, and at a junction, we will take the right turn again towards Siles. About 2 km further, there is a forest track leading to Las Acebeas forest house. This will be our starting point. From here, there is an older track which makes its way up with several junctions. We must walk eastwards until reaching a hill situated between two summits. This will lead us to the highest peak, Navalperal, standing at 1,620 metres.
Las Acebeas is a place of great interest for hikers in Jaen, located in the heart of the Sierra de Segura. Known for its rich biodiversity and stunning landscape, it offers a perfect escape into nature.
Las Acebeas is situated in the municipality of Siles, accessible via the JF-7012 road from La Puerta de Segura or A-310. The road is well-signposted, leading directly to the forest.
This forest is one of the southernmost habitats for holly and hazelnut trees in the Iberian Peninsula. Benefiting from a unique microclimate with Mediterranean and Atlantic influences, Las Acebeas boasts an exuberant vegetation that includes holly, hazelnut, plane, ash, elm, and Aleppo pine trees.
Las Acebeas serves as the starting point for several hiking trails, including the popular route towards the Navalperal summit. This moderate-difficulty trail offers stunning panoramic views of the Natural Park of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas. Along the way, you will find several campsites and recreational areas, such as Camping Río de Los Molinos and Camping Fuente de La Canalica.
The ascent is relatively straightforward, but the descent can be more challenging due to the steep slopes. Proper hiking gear and caution are advised, especially on the way down.
