The route starts from the A-340 near Tabernas, where you take the A-349 towards Olula del Río. A kilometre later, you will take the AL-405 on the left hand towards Castro de Filabres, Velefique and Bacares. The road is recently laid from Velefique to Bacares and there is horizontal signage.
The journey is quite picturesque. Initially, the landscape is completely desert-like with dry riverbeds and some vegetation (olive trees, almond trees, prickly pears, etc.). After about 10 km of false flats that leave several “cortijás” (traditional rural houses in Andalusia) on both sides, you reach the foot of the village of Velefique.
From here, the ascent begins, which is one of the most attractive climbs that can be done in the southern peninsula. The road literally hangs from the mountain, tracing countless hairpin bends, designing a beautiful zigzag above our heads. The slope eases a bit to an average of 6% with loose ramps of 10-11%, especially in the curves that end up drawing a real staircase in the mountain that seems to reach the sky.
Halfway up the port, there is a small reforestation pine forest, which only serves to dream of how wonderful this climb can be the day those pines grow. But, if our dream comes true, we will not be able to enjoy the spectacular panorama that is offered to us from this magnificent natural viewpoint.
After almost 13 km from the bridge that started our penalties, the perspective changes completely and we get a view of a high mountain landscape, with its interior valleys and ravines covered with pines. In front of us, majestic, upright, stately, the image full of attraction of a female breast that gives name to the unparalleled Tetica de Bacares.
This route is not only a feast for the eyes but also a thrilling driving experience. Just remember to drive safely and enjoy the journey!
This summit can be reached from different paths; another option besides the above-named is taking a long route from Puchena that runs along well-marked paths. Another option is the route that begins in the village Bacares, a comfortable asphalt road and easy to perform. Tetica de Bacares is a peak of 2,088 metres located in the Sierra de los Filabres, in the province of Almeria, Spain, being one of the most eastern peaks of the Penibetic Mountain Range to exceed 2,000 m a.s.l.
To get there, drive in direction towards Granada and Guadix and keep on the A-92 until the exit towards Tabernas and then on the secondary road ALP-405 to Velefique. The route departs from the A-340 at the height of Tabernas, when we take the A-349 towards Olula del Río. One kilometre later we will take the AL-405 on the left hand towards Castro de Filabres, Velefique and Bacares.
