Cala de la Polacra

Cala de la Polacra is an untouched, inaccessible cove that includes a protected underwater space and a landscape of cliffs immersing into the sea. This secluded spot offers a tranquil retreat for those seeking to connect with nature's raw beauty.

In this area, you'll find Cerro de los Lobos, a site used in the past as a point of surveillance. A watchtower was built here in the mid-eighteenth century to monitor the coast. It continued to be used until the mid-twentieth century when it was included as a protected place of Cabo de Gata-Níjar. After being restored in 1991, it has served as a lighthouse, guiding seafarers along this rugged coastline.

Access and Nearby Attractions

The village of San Jose in Almeria, from where you can head towards the cove, is a town of Nijar. From here, you can also access the Bay Genoveses (map) and Monsul Beach (map). These locations have been the backdrop for numerous films, including the famous Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Faro de la Polacra

The Faro de la Polacra is a lighthouse located on Punta de la Polacra, near Níjar, in the province of Almería, Spain. It's situated within the natural park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar. The lighthouse was inaugurated on September 9, 1991, making it the last lighthouse built in Almería. The lantern is placed on an 18th-century watchtower, known as "Torre de los Lobos". With its focal height of 281 meters above sea level, it is the highest lighthouse in Spain and the Mediterranean.

This trail starts from Las Negras, Andalusia, Spain. The descent from the lighthouse can be made via the same path, and in the first curve, there's a trail to the right.
