This hiking route, which may take approximately nine hours to complete, is recommended to be done over two days. The journey offers a blend of historical intrigue, cultural immersion, and natural beauty, making it a must-try for outdoor enthusiasts.
The route begins in Fiñana, a municipality in Almeria. This town, founded by the Romans, is divided into two distinct areas: the Arab area with narrow streets and the Christian area constructed after the conquest, which boasts many outstanding religious buildings. Fiñana is home to several attractions, including a 10th-century Moorish fortress, a church, and a mosque. It's the perfect place to soak in some history before embarking on your hike.
From Fiñana, you drive in the direction of Granada until you reach a crossroads. After turning left, you will see a lane that leads into the mountains to a mountain retreat. This spot offers great natural beauty and serves as a vantage point from where you can observe Cerro de la Cumbre at more than 2000 metres height. If you continue the route, you can also observe Cerro del Almirez, your final destination.

Cerro de Almirez, with an altitude of 2514 meters above sea level, is the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada Almeriense, after the Chullo. It's located within the Sierra Nevada National Park. The peak presents a double summit, the northeast (2514 m) of greater height and the southwest (2511 m), separated by a hill. The route to the peak is a popular trail among hikers, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
