This hiking trail begins in the renowned village of Jabugo, famous for its Iberian ham. Located on the main road leading from the capital towards Badajoz and about 100 kilometres from Huelva, Jabugo is easily accessible. The village offers a delightful starting point for your hike, where you can savour the local delicacies before setting off.
The trail takes you through lush forests and along serene riverbanks, providing an immersive experience in the Natural Park Sierra de Aracena. The route is relatively easy and takes about 2 hours to complete, making it suitable for hikers of all ages. Along the way, you will pass through the picturesque village of Galaroza, known for its charming streets and vibrant local culture. It’s worth taking a short detour to explore this quaint village and perhaps grab a bite to eat.
Continuing on, you will reach Las Chinas, a small and tranquil village located to the northwest of Galaroza. Las Chinas is surrounded by beautiful landscapes that are characteristic of the Sierra de Aracena. The village is perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle, offering a peaceful retreat with scenic views and a close connection to nature. Take some time to explore the local area, enjoy the serene environment, and perhaps meet some of the friendly locals.
The route starts on the road to Badajoz, continuing until you reach the road to El Repilado. From there, follow the signs to Galaroza, and then head northwest towards Las Chinas. The entire route is well-marked, but be mindful of a few unmarked forks where you might need to rely on a map or GPS to stay on track.
