This ancient path connects two picturesque villages in the Sierra de Aracena, offering hikers a chance to explore the natural beauty of the Sierra de Aracena Natural Park. The trail highlights the rich natural and cultural heritage of the region.
The path connecting Alájar and Linares de la Sierra can be undertaken in both directions. However, it is easier to start from Alájar and walk to Linares due to the elevation difference between the two villages. The total distance is 7.6 kilometres round trip, which takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is of medium difficulty.
To start the trail from Linares, head towards the cemetery; you will see signs indicating the route shortly after passing the last houses. The trail features a stream and areas that may be flooded depending on the season, so it is advisable to bring spare shoes or socks in case your feet get wet.
A few kilometres from the starting point, you will reach Puerto de Linares, the highest point of the trail. This is a great spot to relax and have a snack. From here, the path becomes easier as it descends towards Linares de la Sierra.
The best time to hike this trail is during the rainy season when waterfalls and streams are at their most vibrant. Be sure to wear suitable shoes as the ground may be unstable and waterlogged in some parts.
