Puerto Banus is situated inside the municipality of Marbella and is quite a popular destination on the Costa del Sol, well-known mainly for its luxury and was developed between the 60’s and 70’s as an initiative of the entrepreneur Jose Banus.
Puerto Banus is made up of luxurious urbanisations, apartments, villas, houses and luxury hotels for the enjoyment of those who can afford it, although offers for all pockets can be found.
The heart of Puerto Banus, where a great amount of luxurious yachts dock, where we’ll find the most luxurious sports cars (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche,...), where there are plenty of luxury shops and restaurants, is a place we simply must visit if we’re in the area.
The leisure offer in Puerto Banus is huge and varied, from nightlife pubs and clubs, being one of the favourite areas amongst the youngsters, with pubs for the foreigners as well, to sports like golf or gyms, or shopping.
The pubs and clubs in Puerto Banus are quite focused on the foreign tourism; in fact in some of them they’ll only attend you in English.
During the high season, Puerto Banus is packed with people all the time, the pubs and discos are absolutely full every day of the week. However, if you go in low season, you’ll find they are only lively and packed on weekends.
If you go to Puerto Banus by car, don’t waste time trying to find a parking spot as it is very difficult, the wise thing to do is go straight to a public parking.
Puerto Banus is for all budgets, but there are also exclusive places where a bottle of bubbly can cost you up to 1000 euros or even more. In summer, the popular beach clubs open, and places like Ocean Beach or Nikki Beach offer theme parties, shows, concerts,...and are open all day.
In most of the pubs and clubs at night they do require a certain dress code where the lads must wear at least long trousers and shoes.
The majority of the pubs are to get in, however, the clubs and discos will most likely charge an entrance fee that normally includes a drink. You may be able to get in for free if you get there at an early hour when there is still very few people inside, before it starts getting packed.
If you go for a walk around Puerto Banus, you’ll find many people trying to entice you to visit the pub or club they work for and may even offer free drinks or shots.
In Puerto Banus the clubs and discos close at about 7 in the morning...if you last until that time, you may find interesting to know that this is also the approximate time all the cafes open so you can have a delicious breakfast before going to bed...you’ll feel a lot better when you finally wake up.
The two beaches in Puerto Banus offer all the necessary services to enjoy the sea and the sand:
- Rio Verde beach: A wide beach that offers the possibility of practicing many water sports.
- Duque beach: This beach hosts 2 of the most famous beach clubs in Marbella, the Ocean club and Buddha Beach.
