Sierra de Castril

North of Granada is located the Natural Park of Sierra de Castril, a place of great natural beauty where we can do excursions and get to know the spectacular relief. From the source of the river Castril to diverse flora and fauna, it’s all a sight worth visiting.

Marked Trails and Paths

  • Barranco de la Osa

    Nice tour of medium difficulty along 7.5 kilometres, where we find a cascade and which eventually leads to Barranco de la Osa. The trail of 7.5 kilometres will take about 4 hours with medium difficulty.

  • Cerrada de la Magdalena

    Of only 45 minutes length, this marked trail is possibly the shortest and least difficult and which leads us to Barranco de la Magdalena. Low difficulty trail of 1.6 kilometres and which will take approximately 1 hour.

  • Cerrada de Lezar

    Route through Castril Valley, where we will see native species such as vultures and other birds. Walking trail of little difficulty and 1.8 kilometres length which takes approximately one hour.

  • Cerro del Buitre

    Trail of medium difficulty along 11 kilometres leading to one of the highest peaks of the Sierra, from where you can see some species of native birds such as the vulture and enjoy views of Sierra de la Cabrilla, Sierra de Baza and Sierra Nevada among others. Distance 10.7 kilometres of medium to high difficulty and it takes about 5 hours.

  • Sendero de la Cerrada del Río Castril

    This is a beautiful and easy hiking trail located in the Sierra de Castril Natural Park. The trail is approximately 2.2 kilometers long and is suitable for all ages, making it perfect for families. The route features wooden walkways, a suspension bridge, and stunning views of the river Castril. It takes about 1 hour to complete the linear path, and the return trip takes an additional hour, totaling around 2 hours for the entire hike.

Local Cuisine and Artisan Tradition

At the end of any of the routes, you may want to regain strength by tasting the exquisite cuisine of the village of Castril, with dishes prepared with trout from the river Castril or any of the typical sausages of the Sierra. Castril village also has a great artisan tradition if you want to take home a souvenir.

How to Get to Sierra de Castril

Passing by Granada, Guadix and after bordering Sierra de Baza, change direction north to the village of Castril.
