Marquesado of Zenete, a region located in the south of the Guadix area, comprises 10 municipalities of Granada characterized by being located over 1,000 meters above sea level, diversity of its landscape, and its natural wealth; ideal places from where to plan our excursions and hiking trails through the region.
The region of Zenete at the foot of Sierra Nevada offers various routes to discover the area and its history along paths that run through the county.
One of these routes starts from Jerez del Marquesado towards Guadix and passes through several municipalities in a journey that takes about 3 hours along 17 kilometres.
In Jerez del Marquesado, we can marvel at its medieval towers and Mudejar churches built on ancient Moorish mosques. We'll find along our way to Rio Verde many abandoned farmhouses that show the activity of the place in ancient times.
Our destination on this tour will be Guadix, the county administrative centre during the Roman occupation; a perfect place to relax and visit some of the most representative monuments.
Another recommended excursion will show us some of the secrets of Sierra Nevada along 21 kilometres in just over 4 hours.
This area of Granada has been throughout history a place marked by mining, thus we can find traces of some of these already shut down holdings along our way. We also will find a landscape shaped by glacial action in the past, a route that runs largely along old trails used by shepherds to visit Sierra de Jerez.
The destination of this route is the refuge of Postero Alto, a place where we can relax before starting our descent along the path close to the river Alcazar and which will take us to Jerez del Marquesado.
To reach Jerez del Marquesado from Malaga, we skirt Granada in the direction of the Natural Park Sierra de Huetor, which we traverse in the direction of Guadix, where we will continue south to Jerez del Marquesado where we can park our vehicle.
