This municipality located in the Alpujarra was one of many who participated in the famous rebellion against the Christian conquest. From the village, we have access to several hiking trails that show us the beauty of the surroundings.
One route starts from Lanjarón with direction to Pampaneira and Nigüelas while the other goes to Puerto de la Ragua.
We will analyse the route from Pampaneira in direction to Trevélez; an ideal destination from where we can plan our ascent of Mulhacén.
We analyse a short section of this long route which can be done in several days; we can start it in Soportújar, Pampaneira or Lanjarón.
We can begin the Granadian Trail in Soportújar and finish in Bubión after passing by Pampaneira; 7.3 kilometres that will take us more than two hours along an ascension ranging from 946 meters above sea level to 1341 meters.

This route of beautiful landscapes begins in Venta del Aire or Soportújar, a town of uncertain origins which might have originated during the Roman period or somewhat later. Here we can visit places like the Forest House and Dam 24 forming part of the trail.
Route of about 9 kilometres that will take us about 2 ½ hours to travel and quite likely presence of snow during the winter.
The difficulty of this route is average and it starts at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level in Bubión. The highest point of this tour is situated at 1546 and ends in Busquístar at 1173 meters.
Itinerary:
In Bubión we can contemplate the typical houses of wooden beams and adapted to the slope.
In Busquístar we recommend a visit to the iron mines of Conjuro, where remains of an Arab lamp were found, indicating that they were already active from the Arab period. We can also climb the Cerro de la Mezquita, where we have a great view and can see the remains of an ancient population.
If we want to get to Trevélez we can take this route of 11.57 kilometres that will take us about 3 hours from the 1,190 meters at the start in Busquístar up to 1454 meters where Trevélez is situated.
Itinerary:
Trevélez is the highest located village on the peninsula, known to be the perfect place from where to begin our ascent to Mulhacén and Alcazaba. We can also visit the Archaeological Museum of the Alhambra and the Barrio Alto where traditional architecture of the Alpujarra is preserved.
The shortest route by road to Pampaneira is on the A-7 to Salobreña. From Salobreña we take the direction towards Lanjaron or Pampaneira.
