Jerez del Marquesado is located within the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada on its the northern side. If you visit the area we recommend a stroll through its narrow streets of whitewashed buildings and which also offers a wide variety of tourist attractions such as forest walks and excursions.
It is known from the remains found that different civilizations and settlements that have populated the area from prehistoric times have benefited from mining. Some of the places we recommend to visit are remnants of these civilizations.
While strolling and trekking you may want to visit some of the recommended places to visit below:

This recreation area is located 10 kilometres from Jerez del Marquesado and is the starting point of many hiking trails.
Sulayr, which means "Mountain of the Sun" (the original name of Sierra Nevada), is the name currently given to a great circular trail of about 300 km, the main axis of the network of trails that we can find in the Nature Park.
This path starting in the village ascends towards Puerto Trevelez; an excursion in which to enjoy a typical mountain landscape.
To get to this trail we have to leave the village from the south and follow the "sendero" hiking sign.
If we drive, we have to get to Refugio Postero Alto from the village along the paved runway; we can reach it on foot from the village along a path that ascends to Refugio Postero.
The trail of Sulayr is high mountain, so we recommend checking the weather forecast in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The tour gives us views of the surrounding mountains such as Baza, La Sagra, and Cazorla among others.
This route will give us spectacular views from about 2000 m altitude. During our tour, we will cross streams, canyons, meadows, and old roads that connected Marquesado with the Alpujarra.
